Aluminum Driveway Gates in Metro Detroit

Powder-coated aluminum gives you the look of wrought iron without the rust, the repainting or the weight that pulls posts over. We build single and double swing driveway gates on heavy posts set below the frost line, ready for an opener now or later.

WHY ALUMINUM AT THE DRIVEWAY

The Light, Rust-Proof Way to Close a Driveway

A driveway gate is the widest, heaviest moving part on your property. Aluminum keeps the weight down so hinges, posts and openers last.

No Rust Through Road Salt

Aluminum does not rust, and a baked powder coat resists the salt spray that drifts up Metro Detroit driveways every winter. Steel needs touch-ups; aluminum does not.

No scraping or repainting

Light Enough to Stay Level

An aluminum leaf weighs a fraction of a steel one, which means less torque on the hinge post and less sag across a 12- or 16-foot opening.

Less load on posts

Matches Your Fence Line

Gates come in the same picket styles and colors as our decorative aluminum fencing, so the driveway and yard read as one design.

Same style, same color

Ready for an Opener

We frame the gate and set posts with automation in mind, so a swing opener can be added later without rebuilding the gate.

SIZING & SITE PLANNING

Planning a Driveway Gate That Works in Michigan

Start with the opening. Most residential driveways need 10 to 16 feet of clear width, and anything over about 6 feet is usually split into a double swing so each leaf stays light. Then look at the swing path. Driveways that slope up from the street can stop an inward-swinging leaf, and winter snow banks can trap a gate that swings out. We measure the grade across the full swing and recommend direction, ground clearance and whether an arched-top style works better than flat.

Posts carry everything. We set heavy-wall aluminum or steel posts 42 inches or deeper in concrete, below the Michigan frost line, and wider gates get larger footings. Front-yard gates often fall under height limits of about 3 to 4 feet in many Metro Detroit cities, so we check your lot's rules before quoting. If you need power, see automatic gates. For posts in detail, see heavy-duty gate posts, or browse all gates.

HOW A DRIVEWAY GATE PROJECT RUNS

From Site Measure to a Gate That Swings True

Most driveway gates install in one or two days once permits clear and the gate is fabricated to size.

01

Step 1

Measure Opening & Swing

We measure the clear width, map the grade across both swing arcs, check snow storage areas and discuss whether you want an opener now or later.

PAPERWORK MANAGED

02

Step 2

Permits, Miss Dig & Order

We file the permit and any HOA packet, place the Miss Dig 811 ticket and order the gate built to your opening, style and color.

Step 3

Posts, Hang & Adjust

Posts go in below the frost line and cure, then leaves are hung, leveled, fitted with a drop rod and latch, and tested through full swing.

STYLES & OPTIONS

Driveway Gate Styles and Add-Ons

Pick a top, a color and a few practical options.

Flat Top

Clean, modern line that matches most aluminum fence styles and suits newer subdivision homes.

Arched Top

Each leaf rises toward the hinge or center for a classic estate look. Works well on brick colonials.

Puppy Pickets

Extra pickets across the bottom close the gaps so small dogs cannot squeeze through.

Black, Bronze or White

Black is the most popular. Bronze suits stone and brick; white fits coastal or farmhouse styles.

Swing Opener Prep

Reinforced frame points and post brackets so an opener mounts cleanly later.

Keyed Latch

A lockable latch and cane bolt hold double gates shut and keep the driveway closed when you are away.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Aluminum Driveway Gate Questions

What homeowners ask before ordering a driveway gate.

How much does an aluminum driveway gate cost installed?

Most manual double swing aluminum driveway gates land between about $2,500 and $6,500 installed, depending on width, height, style and posts. Single gates run less. Automation is a separate cost. You get an itemized quote after the measure.

Is aluminum strong enough for a driveway gate?

Yes, for residential use. Commercial-grade aluminum with welded joints holds its shape well, and the lower weight reduces post and hinge wear. For high-security or very wide openings, steel or a slide gate may fit better.

Should my driveway gate swing in or out?

Most swing into the property, but an uphill driveway can block that. Swinging out may require space before the sidewalk or right-of-way and can be blocked by snow. We map the grade and recommend the better option.

Can I add an automatic opener later?

Yes, if the gate and posts were planned for it. We build with opener-ready frames and set posts that can carry the extra load.

Do I need a permit for a driveway gate?

Often yes, especially if it is part of a front-yard fence. Many Metro Detroit cities limit front-yard fence height to about 3 to 4 feet. We confirm your lot's rules and file the permit.

How do aluminum gates hold up in Michigan winters?

Very well when the posts are set below the 42-inch frost line. Gate trouble in winter comes from heaving posts and snow buildup, not the aluminum itself.
