Why Vinyl Fences Lean, Sag and Crack, and How We Prevent It
Vinyl itself rarely fails. Installs do. Michigan frost reaches about 42 inches deep, and a post set at 24 inches gets lifted a little every winter until the line wanders and the gate stops latching.
We set every post below the frost line in concrete, insert aluminum into every bottom rail, and stiffen every gate post with steel. It adds a day to the job and decades to the fence.

How much does vinyl fence installation cost in Metro Detroit?
Most 6-foot full-privacy vinyl projects land between $35 and $55 per linear foot installed, depending on style, color, gates, grade changes and how much old fence comes out. Picket styles run lower. You get an exact itemized number after the free on-site measure.
Does vinyl fencing turn yellow or crack in Michigan winters?
Not with virgin PVC. We install material with titanium dioxide UV inhibitors and impact modifiers that stay flexible below zero. Yellowing and cracking come from recycled-core vinyl and from posts that heave because they were set too shallow.
Can a vinyl privacy fence handle strong wind?
Yes, when the posts are set at 42 inches in concrete and the rails are reinforced. Wind damage on vinyl almost always traces back to shallow posts or missing aluminum inserts.
Do I need a permit for a vinyl fence?
Most townships in Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties require one, and many limit front-yard fences to 3 or 4 feet. We check your local rules, draw the plot plan and file the permit for you.
How long does vinyl fence installation take?
The build itself is usually one to three days for a typical backyard. Permits and HOA approval are the variable, generally one to three weeks.
Is vinyl better than wood for a privacy fence?
Vinyl costs more up front but needs no staining or board replacement, so it usually costs less over 15 years. Wood is the better choice if you want a natural cedar look or plan to paint it.
