WHY ALUMINUM PICKETS

A Wrought-Iron Look That Shrugs Off Road Salt and Snow

Decorative aluminum is the fence for front yards, corner lots and gardens where you want a boundary without a wall. Here is what separates it from steel and from vinyl picket.

No Rust, Ever

Aluminum does not oxidize the way steel does, so there is nothing to bubble under the paint when salt spray from the street hits the bottom rail.

No scraping or repainting

Baked-On Powder Coat

Pickets, rails and posts are finished with a polyester powder coat that holds its black or bronze color far longer than field-applied paint.

Factory finish, not spray paint

Follows Your Grade

Rackable panels shift to follow a sloped yard so the bottom rail stays an even height above the ground instead of stair-stepping.

Clean lines on hills

Sightlines Stay Open

You can watch kids and dogs from the porch and your landscaping stays visible from the street, which is why HOAs approve it readily.

Curb appeal without walls

BUILD SPECIFICATION

What Goes Into an Aluminum Picket Fence That Stays Straight

Aluminum panels are light, which is a strength and a weakness. They will not sag, but a post that heaves even half an inch in a Michigan winter shows instantly as a crooked top rail. We set every post 42 inches deep in concrete, below the frost line, and use heavier posts at gates and corners where the load is. It is the same standard we use on our ornamental aluminum fencing projects of every size.

Most decorative picket fences in Metro Detroit run 4 feet in front yards and 5 feet along back lot lines. If the fence also surrounds a pool, it must meet barrier rules instead, so see our aluminum pool safety fencing. For a matching entrance across the driveway, we build arched aluminum driveway gates in the same picket style and color.

Fencing the Front Yard?

Most Metro Detroit cities cap front-yard fences around 3 to 4 feet. We confirm your lot's limit before we quote, so you never buy a fence you cannot install.

STYLES, HEIGHTS & COLORS

Picket Styles We Install Most

Every style below comes in standard heights from 3 to 6 feet, in black, bronze or white powder coat.

Flat Top

Pickets end under a flat top rail. Clean, modern and the most kid-friendly choice for a yard with play equipment.

Spear Top

Pickets pass through the top rail and end in pressed spear points. The classic wrought-iron profile for older brick homes.

Finial Accents

Decorative finials on every picket or every third picket dress up a front walk without making the fence feel heavy.

Puppy Pickets

Extra short pickets between the main ones along the bottom rail keep small dogs from squeezing through the lower gap.

4 ft Front Yard

The common front-yard height that defines the property and meets most setback rules. See our 4-foot black aluminum fence guide.

5 ft and 6 ft Backyard

Taller panels for rear lot lines, dog runs and properties backing onto a road, while keeping the view open.

Black and Bronze

Black is the most requested color and matches most trim and lighting. Bronze reads warmer against tan brick and stone.

Matching Walk Gates

Walk gates in the same style with self-closing hinges and a latch you can lock, built on upsized posts.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Decorative Aluminum Fence Questions

Straight answers on cost, durability and how aluminum compares.

How much does a decorative aluminum fence cost in Metro Detroit?

Most 4-foot residential aluminum picket projects land roughly between $35 and $60 per linear foot installed, depending on style, height, color, gates and slope. Finials, puppy pickets and taller panels add cost. You get an exact itemized price after the free on-site measure.

Is aluminum fencing strong enough to keep a dog in?

Yes for most dogs. A 4 or 5 foot fence with tight picket spacing contains most breeds, and puppy pickets close the bottom gap for small dogs. For strong climbers or diggers we will tell you honestly if a taller or different fence is the better fit.

Does aluminum fence rust or need painting?

Aluminum does not rust, and the powder coat is baked on at the factory, so there is no scraping or repainting. Rinse it with a hose once or twice a year and touch up any deep scratch with matching paint.

Aluminum or steel ornamental fence: which is better?

Steel is stronger against impact but will eventually rust where the coating is scratched, especially near salted roads. Aluminum is lighter, rust-free and costs less to own, which is why we recommend it for nearly every residential yard.

Can an aluminum fence go on a sloped yard?

Yes. Rackable panels shift to follow a gradual slope so the bottom stays an even distance off the ground. On steep grades we step the panels and fill the gaps where needed.

Do I need a permit for an aluminum fence?

Most cities and townships in Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties require one, and front-yard heights are usually limited. We check your local rules, draw the plot plan and file the permit for you.
