OAKLAND COUNTY COMMUNITIES

Oakland County Cities We Serve

These are the Oakland County communities we build in most. Each city page covers the lots, styles and approval steps we see there.

Royal Oak

1920s to 1950s bungalows on narrow lots, where cedar privacy and picket fronts work around detached garages.

Troy

Large subdivision lots with active HOAs, where vinyl privacy and aluminum pool enclosures dominate.

Novi

Newer subdivisions near Walled Lake and Twelve Oaks with association rules on style, color and height.

Rochester Hills

Spacious, often wooded subdivision lots where long runs of privacy or ornamental fencing are typical.

Ferndale

Compact older lots just north of 8 Mile where every foot counts and modern horizontal cedar is popular.

Birmingham

High-value older homes where refined cedar, picket and ornamental aluminum match the architecture.

Farmington Hills

Established subdivisions with mature trees, where privacy and dog fencing go in around roots and slopes.

Bloomfield Hills

Estate lots where ornamental aluminum, driveway gates and long perimeter runs are the norm.

Southfield

Postwar and midcentury neighborhoods with steady demand for privacy replacements and pet fencing.

Auburn Hills

Newer subdivisions and commercial sites along I-75, from vinyl privacy to chain link perimeters.

Berkley

Tight bungalow lots with alleys and garages, where efficient cedar or vinyl privacy is the usual build.

Walled Lake

Lake community lots where open aluminum keeps the view and vinyl handles damp shoreline conditions.

LOCAL CONSIDERATIONS

What Changes From Royal Oak to Rochester Hills

In the south Oakland cities along Woodward, lots are narrow, homes date from the 1920s to the 1950s and most yards have a detached garage and sometimes an alley. The job is usually a replacement that must fit tight to structures and neighbors. In Troy, Novi, Rochester Hills, Farmington Hills and the newer townships, lots are larger, many subdivisions have HOAs with written fence standards, and pools are common.

Western Oakland adds the lakes: Walled Lake, Keego Harbor, Orchard Lake Village, Sylvan Lake and Lake Angelus, where view-friendly aluminum and moisture-proof vinyl work best and shoreline rules can apply. Every city sets its own fence rules; most Metro Detroit cities limit front-yard fences to about 3-4 feet, and we confirm your lot's rules with the building department before quoting. Soils range from heavy clay in the south to sandier ground north and west, and every post goes 42 inches deep either way.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Oakland County Fence Questions

What Oakland County homeowners ask us most.

Does my Oakland County HOA need to approve my fence?

If you live in a subdivision with an association, almost certainly. Many Troy, Novi and Rochester Hills associations specify material, color, height and style. We prepare and submit the packet for you.

Do I need a city permit too?

In most Oakland County cities, yes. The permit comes from your city or township building department, separately from any HOA approval. We file both.

What fence works best on a lake lot?

Ornamental aluminum keeps the view open and will not rust, and vinyl handles damp shoreline air without rot. We check any shoreline or lake association rules before quoting.

Can you fit a privacy fence on a narrow Royal Oak or Berkley lot?

Yes. We tie into garage corners, plan gates for alley or driveway access and build cedar or vinyl privacy that uses every foot of a small yard.

How much does a fence cost in Oakland County?

Price depends on material, height, footage, gates and removal. See our fence cost guide for typical ranges, then get an exact number from the free on-site measure.
