Fence Installation in Southeast Michigan

Beyond the Metro Detroit core, we build toward Ann Arbor and Washtenaw County and out to the edges of Oakland and Macomb, places like South Lyon, Fenton, Clarkston and Richmond where lots get bigger and fence runs get longer. The build standard does not change with the distance.

FENCES FOR BIGGER LOTS

Fence Systems for Suburban and Semi-Rural Properties

Outer Southeast Michigan has more acreage, more long property lines and more animals to keep in or out. These are the four material lines we build most there.

Boundaries & Acreage

Wood & Split-Rail Fencing

Cedar, Treated Pine, Post-and-Rail

Split-rail and wire-backed rail define long property lines on larger lots, and cedar privacy screens the area around the house.

Heights:

3ft to 6ft

Styles:

Split-Rail, Privacy, Picket

Options:

Wire mesh backing

Best For:

Acreage, gardens

Long runs priced per foot

New Subdivisions

Vinyl Fencing

Privacy, Semi-Privacy, Ranch Rail

Newer subdivisions in South Lyon, Fenton and the outer townships favor vinyl that matches the neighborhood and never needs paint.

Heights:

4ft to 6ft

Colors:

White, Tan, Woodgrain

Rails:

Aluminum reinforced

Best For:

HOA backyards

HOA spec sheet supplied

Lakes & Pools

Ornamental Aluminum

Powder-Coated, Rust-Free

Southeast Michigan is dotted with inland lakes. Aluminum secures lake lots and pools without closing in the view.

Heights:

4ft to 6ft

Finish:

Black or bronze

Gates:

Self-closing pool gates

Best For:

Lake lots, pools

No rust, no repainting

Lowest Cost per Foot

Chain Link Fencing

Galvanized & Vinyl-Coated

Long perimeter runs, dog yards and outbuilding enclosures where cost per foot matters more than looks.

Heights:

4ft to 8ft

Finish:

Galvanized or coated

Gates:

Walk and wide drive

Best For:

Perimeters, pets

Wide gates for equipment

WHERE WE WORK

Southeast Michigan Areas We Serve

Our core is the three Metro Detroit counties. These pages cover the regions and outer communities where we also build regularly.

Metro Detroit

The tri-county core of Wayne, Oakland and Macomb, where most of our work happens.

Downriver

Detroit River cities south of Detroit, from Wyandotte to Rockwood.

South Lyon

Southwest Oakland County with newer subdivisions and larger lots toward Washtenaw.

Fenton

Lake country near where Genesee, Livingston and Oakland counties meet, with lake lots and acreage.

Clarkston

Historic village center surrounded by wooded, hilly lots in north Oakland.

Northville

Western Wayne and Oakland, where historic homes meet newer subdivisions.

Richmond

Northern Macomb, where rural lots call for rail, wire and long chain link runs.

New Baltimore

Anchor Bay waterfront on Lake St. Clair, with lake views and newer subdivisions.

BEYOND THE CITY

Fencing Larger Lots Across Southeast Michigan

As you move out from Detroit toward Ann Arbor, Fenton, Clarkston or northern Macomb, the questions change. Lots are measured in acres instead of feet, property lines run past woods and wetlands, and the goal is often keeping dogs or deer in or out rather than blocking a neighbor's view. Split-rail with wire mesh, long runs of chain link and wide drive gates for mowers, trailers and boats become common, along with privacy fencing close to the house.

Townships run their own zoning, and many outer communities have rules for fencing near wetlands, lakes, road right-of-ways and easements. Most limit front-yard fences to about 3-4 feet; we confirm your lot's rules with the township or city before quoting. Soils shift from heavy lake clay near Detroit to sandier, gravelly ground further out, but frost still reaches about 42 inches everywhere, so every post goes that deep in concrete.

HOW OUTER-AREA JOBS RUN

Planning a Long Fence Run Step by Step

Big-lot projects take more planning up front: property pins, easements and gate placement all matter more when the line is hundreds of feet long.

01

Step 1

Walk the Whole Line

We walk the property with you, find survey pins, note wetlands, slopes and tree lines, and plan gates for equipment access.

Grade and trees noted

02

Step 2

Township Approval & Miss Dig

We confirm zoning rules, file the permit, submit any HOA packet and call in Miss Dig 811, including for long rural service lines.

Step 3

Build in Stages

On long runs we set and cure posts first, then hang rails, mesh or panels, and finish with gates and a full walkthrough.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Southeast Michigan Fence Questions

For properties outside the Metro Detroit core.

Do you install fences outside Wayne, Oakland and Macomb?

Yes, we build toward Ann Arbor and Washtenaw County and at the outer edges of the metro area. Call with your address and we will confirm scheduling.

What is the most economical fence for a large lot?

Galvanized chain link or split-rail with wire mesh usually cost the least per foot on long runs. See our fencing price per acre guide for how acreage pricing works.

Do I need a permit in a township?

Most townships require a zoning or building permit for fences, and some add rules near wetlands, lakes or roads. We confirm and file it for you.

Can you fence around wetlands or a lake?

Often, but special rules may apply. We check township, lake association and any state requirements before planning the line.

Will a deer fence keep deer out of my garden?

A tall mesh or wood-and-wire fence around a defined garden area works well. See wood and wire fence ideas for options we build.
