WHY ALUMINUM
Iron Looks, Zero Rust, Almost No Upkeep
Aluminum does not corrode the way steel does, and the powder-coat finish is baked on, not sprayed. That combination is why it is the default for pool barriers and front-yard fences that need to look sharp for decades.
Rust Cannot Start
Aluminum forms its own protective oxide layer, so road salt spray and wet Michigan springs do not leave the orange bleed you see on old steel fences.
No scraping, no repainting
Baked Powder Coat
Panels are pretreated and powder-coated, which resists chipping and fading far better than paint. Black, bronze and white are standard colors.
Factory finish, not field paint
Follows Your Grade
Rackable panels shift to follow a slope without stair-stepping, so there are no triangular gaps under the bottom rail for a dog to squeeze through.
Clean lines on sloped yards
Pool-Barrier Ready
Residential pool styles with tight picket spacing and self-closing, self-latching gates are built to meet the barrier rules inspectors check.
Built for pool inspections

ALUMINUM VS. STEEL
Why We Build With Aluminum Instead of Steel
Ornamental steel and wrought iron are stronger per inch, but in Michigan every scratch is a rust start, and the fence needs wire brushing and repainting every few years. Powder-coated aluminum gives the same black picket look, weighs a fraction as much and does not corrode, which is why it has largely replaced steel on residential jobs. Where you truly need impact strength, such as a commercial perimeter, we still recommend steel or chain link.
The weak point of any aluminum fence is not the panel, it is the post footing. A 2-inch post set 24 inches deep will heave and tip, and the panel brackets crack. We set posts 42 inches deep in concrete and use heavier 2.5-inch or larger posts at gates. For a 4-foot run, see our notes on the 4-foot black aluminum fence.

STYLES & COLORS
Aluminum Picket Styles & Finishes
Most residential aluminum comes down to a top style, a bottom style and a color.
Flat Top
Pickets end below a flat top rail. Clean and modern, and the safest choice around kids and pools.
Spear Top
Pickets pierce the top rail with pointed spears for a traditional iron look on Colonial and Tudor homes.
Puppy Picket Bottom
Extra short pickets between the full ones along the bottom rail close the gaps small dogs slip through.
Black, Bronze or White
Gloss black is by far the most common. Bronze suits brick and stone; white matches Cape Cod trim.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Aluminum Fence Questions We Answer Every Week
Cost, strength, pools and winters.
How much does an aluminum fence cost in Metro Detroit?
Most 4-foot residential aluminum fences land roughly between $35 and $60 per linear foot installed, depending on style, height, slope and gate count. Pool-rated styles and arched driveway gates cost more. You get an exact number after the free measure.
Will an aluminum fence rust?
No. Aluminum does not form red rust, and the powder coat protects the finish. Steel screws or hardware can stain if they are the wrong grade, which is why we use the manufacturer's matched fasteners.
Is aluminum fencing strong enough to keep a dog in?
Yes for most dogs, at 4 or 5 feet with a puppy-picket bottom for small breeds. It is not a climb-proof barrier for athletic large dogs; for those we discuss 5 or 6 feet or a privacy fence.
Does aluminum fencing meet Michigan pool barrier rules?
Pool-rated styles do. Barriers must generally be at least 48 inches high with openings under 4 inches, and horizontal rails closer than 45 inches apart must be on the pool side with tighter picket spacing. Gates must self-close and self-latch. We confirm the local rules before ordering.
Can aluminum fencing go on a hill?
Yes. Rackable panels follow moderate slopes smoothly, and steeper grades are stepped. We check the grade at the measure so the right panels are ordered.
Do I need a permit for an aluminum fence?
Usually, yes. Most Metro Detroit cities and townships require one, and most limit front-yard fences to about 3 to 4 feet. We file it and the plot plan for you.
