WHY VINYL-COATED

Two Layers of Rust Protection and a Color That Disappears

Vinyl-coated chain link is galvanized wire with a thick PVC jacket on top. It costs more than bare galvanized and buys you looks, lifespan and a tougher security fence.

Zinc Plus PVC

The steel core is galvanized first, then coated in PVC, so moisture has to get through two barriers before rust can start.

Double corrosion protection

Fades Into the Yard

Black and green recede against lawn and trees. From the house you look through the fence instead of at it.

Better views than silver

Matching Framework

Posts, top rail, fittings and gate frames are powder-coated to the same color, so there are no silver pipes breaking the look.

One color top to bottom

Security Upgrades Ready

Heavier core wire, smaller mesh and taller heights turn the same system into a hard-to-climb security fence.

Scales up to 10 ft

SECURITY SPECIFICATION

Building Coated Chain Link as a Security Fence

A security fence has to be hard to climb, hard to cut and hard to lift. Standard 2 inch mesh gives a toe hold, so on security runs we can step down to smaller mesh that fingers and boots cannot grip. A heavier 9-gauge core resists bolt cutters better than light wire, and a bottom tension wire or rail stops anyone from pulling the fabric up. Posts are set in concrete below the 42 inch frost line so the line stays tight.

For yards, the same coated system is the upgrade from our galvanized steel chain link. For warehouses, lots and storage yards, see commercial chain link perimeter fencing, and for an anti-climb approach, our anti-climb fence guide. Everything rolls up to our chain link fencing hub.

COLORS & ADD-ONS

Choose Your Color and Security Options

Three standard colors and the add-ons that change what the fence can do.

Black

The most popular coating. Pairs with black aluminum, wrought iron and dark trim, and reads clean along a front yard.

Green

Disappears into lawns, hedges and wooded lots. The common choice for parks, ball fields and rear lot lines.

Brown

A warm tone that blends with mulch beds, cedar fences and wood-sided homes.

Privacy Slats

Color-matched slats woven into the mesh for screening. See chain link privacy panels.

Barbed Wire Arms

Angled extension arms with three strands of barbed wire on top of security runs, where local zoning allows it.

Lockable Gates

Coated walk and drive gates with padlock-ready latches. Larger sites can step up to commercial chain link gates.

Smaller Mesh

Tighter diamond openings that are harder to climb and cut, used on security runs and around equipment.

Bottom Rail

A rigid rail along the bottom instead of tension wire, so the fabric cannot be pried up or pushed under.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Vinyl-Coated Chain Link Questions

Cost, colors and how it compares to plain galvanized.

How much does black vinyl-coated chain link cost?

Most residential vinyl-coated chain link projects in Metro Detroit land roughly between $25 and $45 per linear foot installed, typically about 20 to 40 percent more than galvanized. Security heights, smaller mesh and gates add cost.

Is vinyl-coated chain link worth it over galvanized?

If the fence faces the street or the house, usually yes. It looks better, the coating adds rust protection, and the color hides the fence against landscaping. For a back lot line nobody sees, galvanized is the better value.

Will the vinyl coating peel or crack?

Quality fused or bonded coatings stay attached to the wire through Michigan winters. Cracking usually shows up on cheap extruded coatings or where a mower or trimmer has chewed the bottom of the fence.

Can I get black chain link with silver posts to save money?

You can, but it looks unfinished. We recommend coated posts, rail and fittings in the same color, which is what makes black chain link look intentional.

How tall can a security chain link fence be?

Coated chain link is commonly built 6 to 10 feet tall for security. Allowed height depends on your zoning, so we confirm the limit with the city before we quote.

Can vinyl-coated chain link be used around a pool?

Standard 2-inch mesh is often not accepted as a pool barrier because it can be climbed. Smaller mesh can qualify in some communities, but most homeowners choose aluminum. See our aluminum pool safety fencing for a barrier built to pass inspection.
