What Makes a Chain Link Gate Commercial Grade

The fabric looks similar on every chain link gate. The difference is in the frame, the posts and the hardware.

Heavy Gate Frames

Welded frames in heavier pipe with mid-rails and diagonal truss rods keep wide leaves from sagging under their own weight.

Trussed, welded frames

Oversized Gate Posts

Gate posts are larger and deeper than line posts, set 42 inches or more in concrete so frost and traffic do not move them.

Below the frost line

Commercial Hardware

Heavy hinges, drop rods, center stops and padlockable latches rated for constant use and abuse.

Lockable on every gate

Snow and Ice Planning

Swing paths, slide tracks and ground clearance are planned for plowed snow banks, not just a summer day.

SWING OR SLIDE

Choosing the Right Chain Link Gate for the Opening

Swing gates are the simplest and most economical choice for walk gates and drive openings where there is clear, flat room for the leaves to open. Double swing gates handle wide openings by splitting the weight between two posts, with a drop rod and center stop to hold them. They struggle where the ground slopes into the swing path or where plowed snow piles up against the leaves all winter.

Slide gates solve those problems. Rolling gates ride on a ground track or wheels; cantilever gates hang from carriages on posts beside the opening and never touch the ground in the drive lane, which makes them the better choice where snow, ice and gravel would jam a track. Both can be built opener-ready. For heavy automated sites, see commercial automatic gates.

Cantilever Slide Gates

Track-free gates for wide drive lanes and sites that plow snow through the opening.

Privacy Slats and Screens

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Commercial Chain Link Gate Questions

What facility managers and owners ask us.

How wide can a chain link gate be?

Double swing gates commonly cover openings up to about 20 feet or more, and cantilever slide gates can cover wider drive lanes. The right size depends on the vehicles using it and the space beside the opening.

Swing gate or slide gate for a commercial lot?

Swing gates cost less and work where the swing area is flat and clear. Slide gates, especially cantilever, are better on slopes, tight sites and anywhere snow would block a swing arc.

Can a chain link gate be automated later?

Yes, if it is built opener-ready with the right frame, posts and a pad or mounting location planned. We plan for it up front so you are not replacing the gate later.

How much does a commercial chain link gate cost?

Simple walk gates cost far less than wide drive gates, and cantilever slide gates cost more than swing gates. You get an itemized proposal after the site walk.

Why do commercial gates sag?

Undersized frames, missing truss rods and gate posts that are too small or too shallow. We size frames and posts for the leaf width and set posts below the frost line.

Do you work on existing gates?

Yes. We repair bent frames, replace hinges and latches, rehang sagging leaves and swap fabric on existing commercial chain link gates.
