WHY A PROPER ENCLOSURE
Most Dumpster Enclosures Fail at the Gates. We Build Them to Take a Beating.
City planners want the dumpster screened, haulers need the gates out of the way, and tenants want the area clean. A good enclosure does all three for years.
Steel-Framed Gates
Gate leaves are built on welded steel frames and hung on heavy hinges, then clad in your chosen material so they do not sag or twist.
No dragging, no sag
Posts That Survive Trucks
Gate posts are steel and set deep in concrete below the 42 inch frost line, and we recommend bollards where trucks back in.
Built for weekly pickups
Screening That Passes Review
Solid infill at the height planners typically require, with materials chosen to match or complement the building.
Site-plan friendly
Gates That Stay Open
Drop rods and hold-open stops keep each leaf in place while the hauler services the container, then lock closed after.

MATERIALS & SIZING
Choosing the Material and Sizing the Enclosure
Size the enclosure to the containers, not the other way around. A single front-load dumpster usually needs an interior of roughly 10 by 10 feet, two containers side by side roughly 20 by 10, and compactors need room for the unit, the chute and service access. Ask your hauler for container dimensions and how the truck approaches, because the gate opening and the concrete pad in front of it have to match. Many Metro Detroit cities require dumpsters to be screened on three sides with a gate on the fourth; we confirm the exact rules with the planning department.
Wood is the lowest cost and easy to repair. Vinyl never needs paint and cleans with a hose. Composite boards look like wood, resist rot and hold up well around grease and moisture. All three hang on the same steel post and gate framework. For enclosures around mechanical equipment instead of trash, see our utility and HVAC security cages. The full commercial scope is on our commercial fencing page.

OPTIONS
Enclosure Options and Upgrades
Add what the site needs. Skip what it does not.
Single-Container Enclosure
Three sides and a double gate around one dumpster. The most common restaurant and small retail build.
Dumpster + Recycling
A wider enclosure for trash and recycling side by side, with a center divider or a separate pedestrian door.
Compactor Screens
Screening around trash compactors at apartments and grocery stores, with access left for the chute and service.
Pedestrian Side Door
A walk door so staff and residents can toss bags without opening the large hauler gates.
Steel Bollards
Concrete-filled steel bollards that protect gate posts and corners from the truck forks and backing vehicles.
Matching Site Fencing
Extend the same material along the rear lot line, or secure the rest of the property with commercial chain link and a cantilever slide gate.
Grease & Recycling Bays
Separate bays or dividers for grease containers and recycling carts at restaurants and grocery stores.
HOA Color Matching
Vinyl and composite colors chosen to match clubhouse or building trim so the enclosure blends into the community.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Dumpster Enclosure Questions
What owners, property managers and HOA boards ask before building one.
How much does a dumpster enclosure cost?
Most single-dumpster enclosures in Metro Detroit land roughly between $4,500 and $12,000 installed, depending on size, material, gate width and whether bollards or a pedestrian door are added. Concrete pad work is priced separately. We provide an itemized quote after a site visit.
How big should a dumpster enclosure be?
Allow a couple of feet of clearance around each container. A single front-load dumpster usually needs about 10 by 10 feet inside, and two containers about 20 by 10. We confirm container sizes with your hauler before finalizing.
Does my city require a dumpster enclosure?
Most Metro Detroit cities require commercial and multi-family dumpsters to be screened, usually with a solid enclosure and gate. The required height and materials vary by city and by your approved site plan, so we confirm with the planning department.
Which material lasts longest for a dumpster enclosure?
Vinyl and composite last longest with the least upkeep. Wood costs less and is easy to repair. All of our enclosures use steel gate frames and posts, which is what really determines lifespan.
Can you repair or rebuild an existing enclosure?
Yes. We replace sagging gates, broken posts and damaged boards, and often rebuild the gates on steel frames while keeping usable walls.
How long does it take to build a dumpster enclosure?
Most enclosures are built in two to four days once the permit is issued and the pad is in place. Steel gate frames are fabricated ahead of time, so the hauler is usually only rerouted for a day or two.
