Stops Copper Theft

HVAC and Generator Security Cages in Metro Detroit

Condenser and generator theft costs businesses far more in downtime than in copper. We build lockable chain link and welded-panel cages around HVAC units, generators and utility equipment, laid out for airflow and service clearance and anchored so they cannot be pried loose.

WHY CAGE YOUR EQUIPMENT

A Few Feet of Fence Protecting Tens of Thousands in Equipment

Rooftop units get the attention, but ground-level condensers, generators and pad equipment are the easy targets. A cage turns a five-minute theft into a job nobody wants to attempt.

Deters Copper Theft

Thieves cut condenser line sets for scrap copper in minutes. A locked cage with a top panel forces cutting tools and time, which most will not risk.

Protects coils and line sets

Keeps Air Moving

Open mesh or welded panels let condensers and generators breathe, so the cage does not cost you efficiency or trip a unit on heat.

Airflow first layout

Service Without Hassle

Full-height lockable gates are placed where your HVAC tech or generator service company actually needs to stand and work.

Techs keep their access

Keeps People Out of Hazards

Residents, kids and the public stay away from hot exhaust, fans and electrical gear in apartments, schools and HOA common areas.

Liability reduced

LAYOUT & CLEARANCES

Designing a Cage That Protects Without Breaking the Rules

Every unit comes with a manufacturer installation manual that sets minimum clearances for airflow and service on each side, and generators also carry fire-safety clearance rules for exhaust and nearby openings. We lay out the cage from those numbers and from your mechanical or electrical contractor, never from guesswork, so the cage does not void a warranty or fail an inspection. Utility-owned pad-mount transformers and meters have their own access requirements from the utility, so we build around them only to the utility's spec.

Ground-level cages are built on posts set in concrete below the 42 inch frost line, or base-plated and anchored into an existing slab when digging is not an option. Most cages use heavy vinyl-coated chain link or welded wire panels with a matching top. Pair a cage with commercial perimeter fencing for layered security, or see our full commercial fencing services.

HOW A CAGE PROJECT RUNS

Measured Around the Equipment, Built Around Your Service Schedule

Most single-unit cages are built in a day. Multi-unit and generator enclosures take a little longer to coordinate.

WHAT WE ENCLOSE

Equipment We Build Cages Around

Each type of equipment has different airflow, service and safety needs.

AC Condensers

Single and multiple condensers at offices, retail, churches and apartments, with a top to stop line-set cutting.

Standby Generators

Natural gas and diesel standby generators, laid out to the manufacturer's exhaust and service clearances.

Heat Pumps & Mini-Splits

Small cages for condos and townhome HOAs where units sit along walkways and common lawns.

Backflow Preventers

Enclosures around exposed backflow assemblies to stop tampering and theft of brass components.

Tanks & Mechanical Pads

Propane tanks, pumps and mechanical pads fenced and gated so only authorized staff can reach valves.

Trash and Equipment Combos

Equipment cages built alongside dumpster enclosures or behind a cantilever slide gate.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Security Cage Questions

Clearances, cost and what works best for each kind of equipment.

How much does an AC condenser security cage cost?

Most single-condenser cages land roughly between $1,500 and $3,500 installed, depending on size, top panel, mounting and lock hardware. Generator enclosures and multi-unit cages run higher. You get a fixed written quote after we measure.

Will a cage hurt my AC unit's efficiency?

Not when it is laid out to the manufacturer's clearances and uses open mesh. Problems come from cages built tight against the coil or with solid panels that trap hot air.

Can a generator be fenced in?

Yes, as long as the enclosure respects the generator manufacturer's clearance and exhaust requirements and any fire-code rules. We lay it out from the installation manual and coordinate with your electrician.

Do I need a permit for an equipment cage?

It depends on the city and the size and height of the enclosure. Some treat it as a fence permit, others as part of the mechanical or site plan. We check with the building department and file whatever is required.

Can you install a cage on an existing concrete pad?

Yes. We use base-plated posts anchored into the slab when the pad is large enough, or set posts in new footings just outside it.

Will a cage stop all copper theft?

No fence stops a determined thief with unlimited time, but a locked cage with a top panel and tamper-resistant fittings makes the job slow, loud and visible. Pair it with lighting and cameras for the best results.
