WHY FAMILIES CHOOSE MESH

A Barrier You Can See Through and Lift Out

Mesh is the right answer when the pool is already surrounded by a perimeter fence but you need a second, inner layer between the house and the water. Here is what it does well.

Clear Sightlines to the Water

Tightly woven PVC-coated polyester mesh lets you watch the pool from the kitchen window or patio chair. Solid fences block exactly the view a parent needs.

Supervision stays easy

Hard for Small Kids to Climb

Tensioned mesh gives no toe-holds, no horizontal rails and no pickets to grip. The poles sit on the outside of the panel so there is nothing to step on.

No footholds, no rails

Removable for Parties and Winter

Each section unclips and the poles lift out of their sleeves. Brass or stainless caps sit flush with the deck so nothing trips guests when the fence is down.

Flush caps when stored

Works on Concrete, Pavers and Lawn

We core-drill concrete and stamped decks, set sleeves under pavers, and use ground sleeves in turf so the line can follow the pool shape.

HOW IT IS BUILT

What Makes a Mesh Pool Fence Actually Safe

A removable mesh fence is only as good as its installation. Poles must sit tight in their sleeves, the mesh must be tensioned so a child cannot push under it, and the gap at the bottom must stay small. Most building departments base pool barrier rules on the International codes: a barrier at least 48 inches high, no gap under it larger than about 2 inches, and gates that self-close and self-latch. Removable mesh is commonly built to the ASTM F2286 standard for this product type.

Rules vary by city and township, and some departments will not accept removable mesh as the only barrier around an in-ground pool. We confirm your building department's position before we quote, then pair mesh with the right perimeter fence if needed. For a permanent barrier, see our aluminum pool safety fencing or the self-closing pool gates page, or go back to the pool fencing overview.

HOW A MESH PROJECT RUNS

From Layout to a Tested Gate in Three Steps

Most residential mesh fences are installed in a single day once the layout is approved. The careful work is in the layout and the coring.

01

Step 1

Layout & Code Check

We measure the deck, mark the line at least a few feet off the water's edge, place the gate where adults actually walk, and confirm what your building department requires.

Local barrier rules confirmed

Step 2

Coring & Sleeve Setting

Holes are core-drilled through concrete or pavers at even spacing, then sleeves are set plumb so every pole sits tight and the mesh stays tensioned.

Step 3

Tension, Gate & Walkthrough

Sections are clipped and tensioned, the gate is hung and adjusted so it closes and latches from any open position, and we show you how to remove and reinstall the fence.

OPTIONS & CONFIGURATIONS

Heights, Colors and Gate Choices

Most mesh fences are built from a short list of options. These are the ones that matter.

4-Foot Height

The common choice where the building department minimum is 48 inches and the fence is an inner layer inside a perimeter fence.

5-Foot Height

Adds margin for older climbers and for decks where grade drops away from the pool and would cut into the 48-inch measurement.

Black, Brown or Tan Mesh

Black mesh disappears against lawn and water for the clearest view. Tan and brown blend with stamped or stone-colored decks.

Self-Closing Mesh Gate

A framed gate with spring hinges and a latch mounted high on the pool side. It is the single most important part of the system.

Paver & Brick Decks

We lift pavers, set sleeves in a concrete plug below, and relay the pavers around a flush cap so the deck looks untouched.

Turf & Lawn Sections

Where the line crosses grass, we set ground sleeves in concrete footings so poles stay plumb through Michigan freeze-thaw.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Removable Mesh Pool Fence Questions

Straight answers on code, cost and winter care.

Does a removable mesh fence meet Michigan pool barrier code?

It can, but the decision belongs to your local building department. Most enforce barrier rules based on the International codes: at least 48 inches high with self-closing, self-latching gates. Some do not accept removable mesh as the only barrier for an in-ground pool, so we confirm with your city or township before you buy.

How much does a removable mesh pool fence cost?

Most professionally installed mesh projects land between about $20 and $35 per linear foot, plus a self-closing gate. Paver decks, extra height and tight curves push the price up. You get an itemized number after the free on-site measure.

Can I take the mesh fence down for the winter?

Yes. Sections unclip and poles lift out, then you roll the mesh and store it dry. Taking it down before snow also keeps ice loads off the mesh. The sleeves get flush caps.

Will drilling damage my pool deck?

We use a diamond core bit that cuts a clean round hole with no spalling, keep holes back from expansion joints and coping, and set sleeves so the caps sit flush. Stamped and colored concrete cores cleanly when done carefully.

How long does a mesh pool fence last?

Quality mesh and aluminum poles typically last many years with seasonal removal. Mesh exposed to full sun year-round fades and loosens sooner, so taking it down for winter extends its life.

Do I still need a perimeter fence?

Usually yes. Mesh works best as an inner layer between the house and the water. Your yard still needs a perimeter fence or another compliant barrier, and we can build both.
